Melting into GIMUNews
GIMUN-ing...
What an incredible change of atmosphere! My life is now really soOo different that the one I had 2 weeks ago. Imagine, I was labelled as a lazy-student-enjoying-semester-break. And, guess what now?! We're all the 200 of us, sharing time and efforts trough collective hard-working.
GIMUN is not a dream, it's a trance. Let's picture it: you do nothing except GIMUN related-matters, you meet no-one except security staff at night and wannabe-officials, you even eat and party at GIMUN expenses! Starting in a restaurant eating fondue was illustrative: we melted in a new body (UN-related).
Officially, my conference function is labelled "vice-editor-of-some-kind". Around me, I ear people whispering to their fellow excom and "5th floor corridory" mates: "He does the layoutting". What the heck is that?!
Before and on the first day... nobody knew nothing about this strange occupation. I should admit myself it proved to be more tricky and complex than expected. This redaction is a dynamic entity. The kind of soOo mysterious, weird and late-working that the word "complete" describes it best.
GIMUNews roots beyond simple printed paper.
So far, we sent to press around 23:00. Curiously enough, every single night a printer finally received the "almighty pdf". We finally give birth but he still has to print 210 copies for the next coffee-break at 9:30 every morning.
Interperso(natio)nal relations, un-respected deadlines, cafein overload, and tremendous sleep-ratio should never overcome our motivation. You hardly match names and faces at the same time. You do barely know who does what in the office. Cannot fix your mind and find your words with people messing around? You better cope with it!
Talking feelings, what about yours? What were you doing when you got the first edition of that well-announced newspaper. Did you quest for any copy?! Blue in colour, rectangle in shape and heavy in content: just another student-magazine you think? You're all wroOong!
With our sweat and our ink, we struggle but we proudly make it. 24 hours a day, someone is working for the GIMUNews 2007*. Thanks for reading! :-)
*this includes dreams and nightmares about it.
